LIVE ONLINE MASTERCLASS · SATURDAY 15 AUGUST · 10:00 AM-1:00 PM IST
When Your Beautiful Space Sounds Wrong
You got the light right. The materials right. The proportions right. Then the client moved in – and the room turned on them. This masterclass is about the one dimension of design almost nobody is taught: how a space sounds – and how to get it right at the design stage, not after the complaints.

You’ve seen these rooms. You may have designed one.
- The boardroom that photographs beautifully – where nobody can understand the person across the table.
- The restaurant that’s “buzzing” on the plan and deafening in service – tables leave early, reviews say “loud”.
- The bedroom that passed every drawing review – and lets through every footstep from upstairs.
None of these are design failures in the usual sense. Every one of them was signed off by a good designer. That’s exactly the problem: sound is invisible on a drawing, so it’s the one thing a beautiful render can’t warn you about.
When a space sounds wrong, the fee was earned but the referral is lost. The client doesn’t say “the reverberation time is excessive” – they say “something’s off about the office they did.” Acoustic rework after handover costs multiples of what prevention costs on the drawing – and the designer of record carries the story either way.
What you’ll walk away with
In three focused hours, you’ll be able to:
- Spot the 5 decisions in an ordinary project that determine how it will sound – all made before the first wall goes up.
- Read a room’s acoustic future from the drawing: the material and geometry cues that predict echo, leak and din.
- Answer the client question every designer dreads – “can we fix the noise?” – with a professional’s options, costs and honest limits.
- Use a working vocabulary (absorption, reflection, isolation) precisely enough to direct consultants instead of deferring to them.
- Walk into your next project with a simple acoustic checklist that takes minutes, not a retainer.
Who this is for
For architects, interior designers, and anyone who decides how spaces get built or fitted out – including project heads and business owners mid-build. It is not an acoustics-engineering lecture, and it’s not for audiophiles chasing perfect listening rooms. It’s for professionals who never want to get that voice note from a client again.

About Kevin
Kevin Mario D’Souza founded Sound And About in 2006, after a decade behind the mixing console as a music engineer – the experience that taught him to hear what a beautiful drawing can’t show you. Twenty years on, he runs three specialised acoustic practices: large-space acoustics for landmark and heritage projects (recent work includes restoring the acoustics of a 400-year-old Mumbai church), in-house acoustic doors, and small-room acoustics for studios and home theatres under SoundArt. This masterclass is two decades of getting called in after handover, turned into a designer’s playbook – built on two years of published acoustics education content.
What clients say
“Kevin handled acoustics for our hi-end experience center at Audio Nirvana. We were trying to avoid boomy bass and harsh reflections in the demo rooms – the exact complaints that ruin a listening session if a client can’t hear the detail in the music. Catching it in the design stage instead of post-build meant we got clean, balanced sound from day one without ruining the aesthetic with last-minute panelling.”

FAQ
Will there be a recording? No – this is a live-only session. This is becoming a monthly series, so if this date doesn’t work, reply “next edition” on WhatsApp and you’ll be first to hear about the next one.
I’m not technical – will I keep up? It’s built for designers, not engineers. If you can read a floor plan, you’re ahead of the curve.
Do I get an invoice? Yes, GST-inclusive pricing, invoice available on request.
How do I join? Register, and the Google Meet link lands on your WhatsApp and email instantly, with a reminder before we start.
What if I have a specific project problem? Bring it. The Q&A is live, and messy real projects are the point.
The next space you design will sound like something. The only question is whether that’s a decision or an accident.
